the substance will get lost in the minutia. romney needs one worse than the president right now. >> instead of o owe is it like trying to figure out what the zinger is going to be that will get retweeted on a hash tag? >> yes, that it is. >> it makes me so sad. >> well, yes. as you said, the stakes are higher for mitt romney. keep this mind, this is a man who has been running for president for six years. >> right. >> it's come down to this one moment, this first debate on wednesday where he's got to change the trajectory of his campaign, of the narrative with at that point, what is it 35 days in the race. >>> yeah. >> you're the political scientist here. you're the nerd here at the table. just to my mind, i do not see how practically speaking mitt romney can change the trajectory and move his campaign into a positive position with so little time. >> you're a big nerd too. >> i am a nerdlander. the other thing is in the wake of the 47% comment, we'll need to see a lot of compassion out of romney. we don't cowboy tactics, don't act like he did during the republican primaries, wher

of foreclosures in this country right now. i want to play something that governor romney said about foreclosures, and i want to get your reaction on the other side of the break and we'll talk about how this might be playing in nevada. take a listen. >> don't try and stop the foreclosure process. let it run its course and hit the bottom. >> ed, how much of a problem is that for governor romney in nevada? or have folks forgotten about it? >> no, i think those are the types of comments that when taken out of context or when people don't have the full context, people say, wait a minute. this is state that house suffered unlike any other. it adds to that narrative that democrats have enjoyed building this year, that this is a man who doesn't understand. in that kind of state, you have to somehow empathize with people suffering there and not necessarily suggest it could get worse. it's similar to how his comments on, you know, the bankruptcy of general motors have been used in ohio and in michigan against him and how, you know, other comments have certainly -- you know w that 47% comment.

retires or leaves the court, right? and mitt romney is the president of the united states, that's the biggest fight ever in our lifetime. tell us what that's going to look like after this break. viou. haha. there's more than that though, there's a kick to it. there's a pop. wahlalalalallala! pepper, but not pepper, i'm getting like, pep-pepper. it's kind of like drinking a food that's a drink, or a drink that's a food, zip zip zip zip zip! i'm literally getting zinged by the flavor. smooth, but crisp. velvety. kind of makes me feel like a dah zing yah woooooh! are key states. is the race over? >> absolutely not. and that happened pretty quickly, right, david, you saw change in the polls happen quickly. i'm here to tell you this morning. it can happen quickly back the other way. i think the beginning of that is wednesday, when governor romney for the first time gets on the same stage as the president of the united states, people can make a direct comparison about them and their visions for the future and wednesday night is the restart of the campaign and i think you'll start to see the numbers move back in the other direction. >> how do you restart the campaign, governor, at the last moment where you can reach tens of millions of people. why isn't it too late to believe that the presidential debates, after you announce your running mate, after you have a convention, that you can restart with the presidential debates? >> absolutely. you're going to have tens of millions of people for the very first time, david, really tuning in and paying attention to this race. and also, for the first time you're going to have them be able to make a direct

the right. >> your latest title focused on 34i9 romney. commiserating with the moneyed masses. >> i went to his event in northern virginia and he was talking to a group of veterans and large numbers of unemployment and income forming and i took a stroll through the parking lot with that my roles and the romney bumper sticker on it. but i think that was a metaphor for what the problem is here and that he has his reputation of being a scrooge mcduck and he can't seem to shake it no matter what he says. it's just sort of baked in at this point, i don't know how he gets around and positions himself as a man of the people when he's seen as the man of bain capital. >> we're going to get some unique insights about presidential debates from a broadcasting pioneer carol simpson was the first minority woman to moderate a presidential debate back in 1992, he's going to join us in about a half an hour. >>> we're getting a deadly reminder of the -- two americans, one soldier and one civilian contractor killed during another green on blue attack in this remote check point in the war zone province
